"Plans for Massive Blast in Nev. Draw Fire"

GA police fine $100 for "Bushit" bumper sticker?

I hope this is highly publicized and protested. It's a joke. $100 for a bumper sticker? Free speech, anyone?

Her note to Flagpole. Yeah Athens!! If I were her I would already have called Neal. Though she probably would not.

Police Dept statement (completely inadequate, are they dumb?): "We don't comment on other officers' tickets," says Officer Herschel Grangent, who handles media affairs. "That officer is making his decision on the street. And it's going through legal channels now."

"U.S. sets new mpg goals for big SUVs, light trucks"

Next new goal: not insist on driving somewhere instead of using public transport for the sole reason that it's more fun to drive and listen to music.

Isn't is great that people drive their individual air-conditioned vehicles miles and miles through stagnant traffic to office buildings that are air-conditioned so that people can wear 3-piece suits in the summer time? Mmmm fuel, mmm elitism, status. Blackouts? I wonder why!

My new goal is not to buy anything with packaging.

"...All around rumble dumper lorries, horses and carts laden with refuse and men carrying giant bags of rubbish, like leafcutter ants, to sell for recycling. The activity never stops, and the priest’s voice is sometimes drowned out by the snarl of wild dogs fighting for scraps.

Father Guevara, a 70-year-old Jesuit, has been preaching to this lost flock for 21 years, arriving at the dump by Jeep every Wednesday morning. He has established a charity that helps 400 children living in or around the dump to go to school, eat three square meals a day and escape beatings from their parents. He provides food and rudimentary medical assistance for the rubbish pickers — the pepenadores — and they love him for it..."

I also think it is funny that the "translation" of the sign in the above picture's caption say "...tyrants down" when "no" obviously does not mean "down." the 2nd sign says down- "abajo fidel"

"Prodded to spend, China's consumers prefer to save"

"...one of the government's greatest challenges: jump-starting consumption as the next engine of growth to trim the economy's reliance on investment and exports."

Chinese citizens refuse to consume blindly with their personal surplus, and instead would rather put it away and concern themselves with protecting themselves from their own government. In general here, Chinese citizens win over citizens of currently industrialized nations and of course, over their own governemnt.
